November 2022 Construction Update

Middle School Addition

• 2nd coat (final) of paint went up in 2nd floor classrooms & corridors and was started in 1st floor classrooms.
• Commons & adjoining corridor were painted.
• Ceiling tile perimeter install is complete – remaining tiles will be dropped near turnover date to prevent damage to tiles during remaining construction work.
• Wood gym floor was laid and sanded – painting and clear coat to begin next week.
• Stair treads were installed on back staircase.
• Casework installation continued in Admin offices.
• Interior storefronts at north & south entries and at reception were installed.
• Interior doors were hung and hardware installed.
• Railing panels were installed in Commons.
• Kitchen hood and freezer/cooler units were installed – mechanical & electrical hookups can now be completed and the wall adjoining the cooler can be constructed & finished.
• Theatrical lighting, rigging, and stage curtain installation began in Auditorium
• Elevator was installed & tested.
• Operable partition tracks were installed and columns were built out at both sides to encase support columns.
• Restroom fixtures were set in multi-user restrooms. Locker rooms are next to receive fixtures.
• Light fixture installation continued throughout building.
• Electrical trim-out is nearing completion (light fixtures, outlets & light switches, and low voltage systems).
• HVAC unit serving the gym was started to provide consistent temperatures and reduce humidity for the gym flooring install.
• Fin tubes (which run along the perimeter walls and provide heat to the room) were installed in 1st and 2nd floor classrooms – covers will be installed over the piping next month.
• Unit heaters were set in entry vestibules and cooling units were installed in IT rooms.

• Terrazzo flooring will be installed on the main stair, in the Commons, and at the main entry.
• Decorative wall panels & acoustical sound panels will be installed in Auditorium.
• Acoustic panels will be installed in Commons and Gym.

• Display case will be installed at HS Art Room.

High School Renovation

• Temp walls were removed, future openings to new kitchen spaces are boarded up until turnover.
• Window shade was installed in HS Prep Room.
• Final markerboards and tackboard were installed in HS Science.

What's Up Next

• Additional graphics will be installed on upper Media Center walls.
• Theater equipment will be relocated to new Auditorium after the November show.
• Transportation building will be cleared out in preparation for abatement that is to take place in Spring 2023.

Exterior & Site Improvements

• Metal wall panels were installed on front façade.
• Soffit & fascia installation was completed on south & east facades and is underway on north façade.
• Door hardware was installed on exterior doors.
• Concrete bases were poured at columns at both canopies.

• New sidewalks were poured on north side of building and grading for new parking lot continued.

• Flooring was installed in 1st floor classrooms & admin spaces.
• Flooring is being installed in 2nd floor Commons/Hallways.
• Tile was installed on restroom walls and floors on both floors.
• Epoxy flooring was installed in locker rooms.
• Casework was installed in classrooms, admin spaces, art rooms, and science labs.
• Light fixtures & electrical devices were installed throughout 1st floor rooms.
• Mechanical and electrical focused primarily in the penthouses, getting heating & cooling equipment connected and setting up electrical panels.
• Framing was completed in Auditorium. Drywall installation is nearly complete, walls are being prepped for paint and
  custom finishes.

• Metal deck and plywood cover were installed at north and south canopies.
• Grading started north of MS, preparing the site for the new parking lot.

• Concrete will be poured around the columns and roofing will be installed at both canopies.

• Fume hood start up and testing was performed by manufacturer.
• Replacement countertops were installed in HS Science, and sinks/final connections were completed.
• Floor box covers were installed in Media Center.
• Temp wall was moved in HS Cafetorium – wall block off a portion of the east wall, allowing new doorways into the future kitchen spaces to be cut into the existing block wall.

• Window shade will be installed in HS Prep Room.
• Final markerboards and tackboard will be installed in HS Science.
• Architect is providing options for paint treatments / graphics to be installed on large Media Center walls.
• Theater equipment will be relocated to new Auditorium after the November show.

September 2022 Construction Update

• Drywall was installed in the Commons and admin spaces.
• Painting was completed in 1st floor classrooms & has started in the admin spaces & main corridors.
• Ceiling grid was completed in 1st floor classrooms, restrooms, and locker rooms.
• Flooring installation began on 2nd floor: carpet was installed in offices & small group spaces, vinyl flooring was installed in classrooms, and epoxy flooring was installed in the science room. Corridors and restrooms will be next.
• Restroom walls and floors were prepped for tile.
• Duct install was completed in MS Commons and the Auditorium.
• Framing of curved walls and soffits continued in Auditorium.
• Installation of gym equipment was completed in the Multipurpose room.

• Casework & countertops were installed in HS Science & Science Prep rooms. Gas, electrical, and plumbing in countertops was completed and gas turrets, outlets, and sinks are now functional.
• Fume hood was installed and mechanical connections were completed.
• Window blinds were installed in HS Science.
• Temp markerboards & tackboard were installed in HS Science, the final visual display surfaces will be installed in Sept.
• Media Center shelving was installed & bookshelves stocked (great work teachers & aides!)
• Glass was installed in remaining storefronts in Media Center.

August 2022 Construction Update

Middle School Addition

• Painting was completed in Gym & Multipurpose.
• Installation of gym equipment started in Gym and will move into Multipurpose this month.
• Painting was completed in 2nd floor classrooms and collaboration space and has been started in 1st floor classrooms.
• Ceiling grid install started on 2nd floor, ceiling tiles will be dropped once all overhead work is complete.
• Drywall installation & finishing continued in 1st floor classrooms and admin spaces.
• Walls with sound ratings were insulated on 1st floor, ahead of the drywall install in these spaces.
• Duct install continued in 1st floor rooms, backstage rooms, and MS Commons.
• Painting of ceiling and perimeter precast walls was completed in Auditorium.
• Concrete seating tiers and sloped main seating area were poured in Auditorium.
• Final precast panel was set at Auditorium exterior wall.
• Deck was cut out around the skylights in MS Commons – light is flooding into the space now!
• Framing of side walls and control booth rooms was completed in Auditorium.
• New mechanical units were delivered to site and will be installed in penthouses in August.

• Painting of walls and ceiling touch-ups were completed in new HS Science.
• Epoxy flooring was installed in HS Science.
• Ductwork, plumbing rough-ins, and electrical rough-ins were completed in HS Science.
• Door connecting Middle School 2nd floor to existing building was installed in HS stairwell – door will remain locked for Fall 2022 semester, until MS is turned over to the school.
• A temporary wall was erected at the old HS East Entry, a combination of drywall and translucent plexiglass will keep HS
  users from entering the construction zone in the MS.
• Painting was completed in Media Center.
• Ceiling grid and new light fixtures were installed in Media Center.
• Carpet floor tiles were installed in Media Center and adjacent rooms.
• Casework was reinstalled in rooms north of Media Center and new circulation desk install was begun.
• Storefronts were installed on east wall of Media Center and at Small Group room on south side of Media Center.
• Moisture testing was completed in existing HS corridors & admin spaces, tests determined that additional floor prep & moisture mitigation would not be needed before installing new flooring in these areas.

• Glazing (aluminum frames & glass panes) systems were installed in most exterior openings.
• Brick was installed at south entry.
• Steel for the canopy was installed at the north entry.
• Framing & drywall were complete on 2nd floor. Framing was completed and drywall is beginning on 1st floor.
• Painting started in the gym and locker rooms, moving to the 2nd floor classrooms next.
• Stairs were installed in MS Commons – railings will be welded in place once 1st floor drywall is complete on soffits.
• Metal stairs & catwalks were installed in Auditorium.
• Sloped concrete floor and tiered seating was completed in Auditorium.
• Interior door frames were installed throughout building – glass panels to be added later.
• Plumbing rough-ins were completed in 2nd floor restrooms.
• Spray fire-proofing was applied to ceilings and fire-rated beams/columns.
• Mechanical units were set in both penthouses and in exterior mechanical enclosure – ductwork & piping are in
  progress.

• Final precast panel will be set at Auditorium exterior wall (waiting for all lifts to complete their work in the space as
  they will not be able to access once panel encloses the space).
• Drywall will be completed on 1st floor.
• Painting will continue on the 2nd floor before moving to the 1st floor to follow behind the drywallers.
• Drywall will be installed and ceiling & walls painted in Auditorium.
• Athletic equipment and bleachers will be installed in the Gym and Multipurpose rooms.

• Tile will be installed on restroom walls, then fixtures & accessories can be installed.

• Temporary road on south side of school was removed & site has been graded in preparation for new parking lot.
• Sidewalks on east and south sides of middle school have been installed.
• New shot put and discus equipment (metal rings and cage) were installed and concrete poured under/around
  spectator bleachers.

• Milling of existing pavement will be completed south of high school, in preparation for tie-in to new parking lot.

High School Renovations

• The old Art Room has been demoed, all furnishings removed and kiln relocated for later reinstall in new art space.
• Wall separating the new HS Science from the prep room has been installed.
• New plumbing lines, mechanical ducts, and electrical conduits have been installed in HS Science. Receptacles and fixtures, such as sinks and gas valves, will be installed after casework arrives.
• Existing windows/doors were infilled in Media Center spaces and new storefront openings were created – actual storefronts & glazing to be installed in July.
• Framed walls for new Social Work and Small Group spaces on south side of Media Center.
• New sprinkler main was run above ceiling through the Cafetorium.
• New doorway was cut into the 2nd floor stairwell, where the future HS-MS connector hall will be located – passage will remain closed until the MS space is turned over to the school.

What's up next

• Walls will be painted and new epoxy flooring installed in HS Science & Prep Room.
• Casework & countertops will be installed in HS Science & Prep Room, and integrated fixtures will be installed in casework.
• Fume hood will be installed and testing & balancing completed for unit startup.
• Walls will be painted and new flooring installed in Media Center & adjacent rooms.
• Circulation desk will be installed in Media Center & existing shelving and tables can be brought back in the space.
• Moisture testing for the existing slab will be completed in the classroom corridor and select admin office spaces – this is done to determine if the slab is releasing too much moisture and if any work would need to be done prior to installing new flooring in these spaces.

March 2022 Construction Update

Middle School Addition

• Steel joist installation was completed. Metal roof decks are being laid down over the Auditorium and remaining
  Classroom/Commons areas.
• Concrete floor slabs have been poured on 2nd floor and in the Locker Rooms.
• Structural block walls were completed. Masons began work on non-structural walls inside building & at south
  mechanical enclosure.
• Exterior wall framing was completed on the north & east facades (both floors), exterior sheeting is nearly complete.
• Electrical & plumbing rough-ins were completed in 1st floor classrooms & science rooms. Electrical rough-ins began in
  Kitchen and Commons.
• Ductwork installation began in Gym, starting with the large spiral duct mains.

What's up Next

• Precast braces will be removed and remaining precast panel set in Auditorium once roof deck installation is complete.
• Grouting of precast panels (where caulk is applied between the individual panels) will be completed, this will make
  these spaces weather tight.
• Roofing materials are scheduled to start showing up at the end of March, will begin installation at Auditorium and then
  over classrooms.
• Concrete floor slabs will be poured throughout 1st floor. Will wait on the Auditorium, because the floor is sloped we
  will first complete all work at ceiling while there is a level floor surface to work on.
• Masons will complete all interior walls and then start brickwork on building’s north façade
• An air barrier will be applied to the north & east facades and then windows will be installed on both floors.
• Framers will move inside building and start erecting metal stud walls where floor slabs have been poured.
• Ductwork will be completed in Gym and then move into Multipurpose. Electrical rough-in will follow behind ductwork,
  installing conduit for future lighting and athletic equipment controls.

• Library will be vacated, to be turned over for construction at Spring Break.
• HS Art Room and storage rooms north of Library will be vacated, to be turned over for construction at Summer Break.

• Shot put and discus fields will be seeded so grass is in place by start of track & field season.
• New shot put and discus equipment (metal rings and cage) will be installed on concrete pads.
• Temporary road south of construction site will be shut down at start of Summer Break and portion of rear HS parking
  lot will be closed to allow for installation of new parking lot south of school buildings.

February 2022 Construction Update

Middle School Addition

• Steel erection is 90% complete, all columns are in place and roof joists are being completed at the new south MS entry.
• Precast erection is complete. One panel was left out on the south side of the Auditorium to allow steel erector crane
  access to the space.
• Areas of the building have been tarped off and heat is being pumped into the spaces to create warm enough
  temperatures for concrete slabs to be poured.
• Structural block walls (those that support joists and framing above) are 95% complete, only a small section remains by
  the Men’s Locker Room.
• Exterior wall framing has begun in the classroom/office spaces on the first floor.
• Electrical panels were set in the Generator & Gym Storage rooms.
• Electrical & plumbing rough-ins were completed in the locker rooms/restrooms near the Gym and electrical rough-ins
  are underway in the newly framed classroom/office spaces.
• Sprinkler piping was installed in the Gym & Multipurpose.
• Windows were installed in the Gym & Multipurpose.

What's up next

• Steel joists will be installed in Auditorium and then remaining roof decks will be put down. Steel contractor will be
  welding all final connections over the next month.
• Precast braces will be removed and remaining panel set in Auditorium once joists are installed.
• Roof slabs will be poured above the storm shelter spaces. Remaining areas receive sheet membrane roofing and those
  will not be completed until early spring.
• Will continue working in sections to get concrete poured on both first and second floors.
• Masons will start on non-structural block walls inside building and brick work at building façade.
• Exterior wall framing will wrap up on the east façade and then move to the 2nd floor once concrete floors are poured.
  Framers will then begin work on interior metal stud walls.
• Ductwork will be installed in the Gym & Multipurpose ceiling, electrical can then follow behind with their conduit
  install for lighting and power to gym equipment.

• Water switchover was completed in new Fire Pump Room inside existing high school.

What's up next

• No other work is taking place in the existing high school at this time. Next steps will be teachers preparing to vacate the Library and 2nd Floor Art Room in preparation for their renovations this summer.

November 2021 Construction Update

Middle School Addition

What happened this past month?

• Demolition of the existing Intermediate School building was completed and dirt was hauled in to infill old building site.
• Rock piers that will support the concrete footings were completed for entire addition.
• Concrete footings and foundation walls have been started, goal is to have these completed by 11/12.
• Electrical and plumbing are following along with foundation walls to rough-in any below grade piping.
• Mixing station & wash-out station were erected by the mason in for use in CMU wall erection which began 11/1.
Mason started on elevator shaft located in center of site and will then move to wall adjoining the existing high school.

What's up next?

• Building pad will receive rock in preparation for new concrete pad, and to provide pads for cranes to use when setting
the steel and precast panels.
• Steel beams will arrive on site mid-November and erection will start in the northeast corner of the building (where
future classrooms spaces will be located).
• Precast concrete wall panels and precast concrete roof panels will arrive on site late-November and erection will begin
in the new gym space.

• Concrete floor was poured back and work has resumed on the pump equipment installation.

What's up next?

• Fire pump will be installed, then the final sprinkler and plumbing piping will be run connecting to equipment.
• A water shutdown will be scheduled once all equipment is in and connections are installed.

Site Improvements

What happened this past month?

• Remaining underground utilities were run in areas under the new middle school addition.
• New transformer was set in existing mechanical enclosure behind high school and new feeds were run into existing
building and to feed new middle school building.
• New concrete pad for bleachers was poured by the track & discus fields.
• The O’Shea job tent is erected and in use! This is where we hold daily meetings with the contractors on site and bi-weekly check-ins with representatives from the school.
• Subcontractors have begun setting up their own job trailers and making a “home” for themselves on site.

What's up next?

• The City of Maroa will complete their final connections to the new water loop servicing both the high school and
middle school – this will not impact the school or construction, but will benefit the city for future work.
• Construction will not begin on the new parking lots north and south of the Middle School building until Spring 2022.
Most of the work at this point will focus on the new building while winter conditions prevent much exterior work from
taking place.
