COVID Announcement from Dr. Ahlemeyer

November 16, 2020

Hi Again MTF Families,

Today, Monday, as we do everyday, we are analyzing our COVID data as well as reviewing guidance from the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH) and the Macon County Health Department (MCHD).

Based on the latest, our High School and Middle School must remain in Remote for ALL through the Thanksgiving Break due to additional student positive cases and staff members being identified as close contacts in the last 24 hours. Simply put, the number of students and staff in quarantine the rest of this week and next week makes it impractical to offer the In Person option. Further complicating matters is the delay people are having in getting their COVID tests back due to the high volume being tested. More importantly, the health & safety of our students and staff always must be our first priority. The High School was originally set to return to In Person tomorrow., the 17th. Our Middle School was originally set to return to In Person on Thursday the 19th. To be clear, now both the HS & MS will be in Remote for All on November 17, 19, 20, 23, and 24.

At this time, our Grade School student and staff numbers remain at levels to safely offer the In Person option the rest of this week and next week. As we have stated before, data can change quickly so Grade School families need to remain adaptable and flexible the rest of this week and next week in case the numbers increase.

Finally, you may be aware that all school districts in the immediate area and all of Central Illinois are in discussion about what to do between Thanksgiving and winter break. We are researching projected data and guidance from IDPH and MCHD. At this time, no decision has been made whether we will be able to offer the In Person option or not during that time period. We hope to have a better idea and a decision by the end of this week or early next week so that our families and staff can proactively plan ahead.

We know this is all so difficult for all involved. We continue to work hard at balancing the health & safety concerns of the virus vs. the benefits of offering the In Person option.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding,

John
