Meet Christine

Hi, I’m Christine Smith. I have a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Music Education form the Hartt School of Music, where I studied with early childhood music expert John Feierabend. I have taught music in public and parochial schools and in the university setting for the past 30 years. I was the Program and Artistic Director for the Millikin Children’s Choir Program and directed the youngest ensemble, the Dolce Choir. I am certified in Kodaly and am the president of CILKE (Central Illinois Kodaly Educators) and Chair of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators Leaf Committee, which is a national granting committee. I am a member of Opus 24, which is a semi-professional choir, and I perform regularly with the Millikin Decatur Symphony Orchestra and Decatur Municipal Band on both oboe and English horn. In 2022, I became National Board Certified. I live in Decatur with my husband, two children, and golden retriever. I am so happy to be teaching at Maroa-Forsyth Grade School!

"Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent."
